The red Malaysian guava is an exotic variety that stands out not only for its taste, but also for its attractive appearance. The fruits are larger, round to oval in size 7 - 12 cm, with a thin, bumpy skin that ripens to a dark purple-brown shade. Beneath the skin is a delicately tender flesh with colorful shades of pink, purple and white. The fruit contains several harder seeds that are usually swallowed whole.
The taste of red Malaysian guava is sweet, complex and aromatic, with a hint of floral and fruity notes, complemented by a subtle musky undertone. Compared to other types of guava, it has lower acidity, which gives it a milder and less astringent taste.
The trees themselves are extremely decorative with their peeling bark and variegated leaves in shades of green and red. At flowering time, beautiful bright pink flowers appear, which distinguish this variety from the more common white-flowered species. The trees are fast growing and bear fruit in our country already in the third year
Red Malaysian Guava is easy to grow in a pot, where it adds a tropical accent to outdoor spaces during the summer. For the winter, the plants must be moved indoors.
