Plinia coronata "Restinga Jaboticaba"

Jaboticaba (read jabotikaba) is a tropical fruit plant native to Brazil, where it is valued for its unique fruits and unusual way of growing. This tree, also known as the "grape tree", impresses with its round, dark purple to black fruits that grow directly on the trunk and branches, giving it a unique appearance reminiscent of a natural jewel.

Jaboticaba fruits are delicious and refreshing. Beneath the firm skin is a juicy, jelly-like flesh, the color of which varies depending on the variety. The taste is sweet with subtle notes of grapes and lychee. Because the fresh fruits perish quickly, they are rarely available in regular stores and are most often eaten directly from the tree or processed into juices, jams and wine.

Jaboticaba blooms several times a year, and flowers and fruits of different stages can often be seen on the tree at the same time. In European conditions, it can be successfully grown in a pot and, with proper care, can begin to bear fruit between 3 and 10 years, depending on the variety.

Jaboticaba Coronata restinga is a selected cultivar of the common Coronata. Its very delicious and peculiarly tasty fruits resemble the Sabara, but supposedly with a floral flavor. Its taste is completely unusual and different from other jaboticabas and when consumed with several types of jaboticaba, they taste even better. It bears fruit several times a year. Expect fruit from the age of six years compared to nine years for the common Coronata. It is indispensable in the collections of every collector of Jaboticaba and tropical plants.
