Jaboticaba (read jabotikaba) is a tropical fruit plant native to Brazil, where it is valued for its unique fruits and unusual way of growing. This tree, also known as the "grape tree", impresses with its round, dark purple to black fruits that grow directly on the trunk and branches, giving it a unique appearance reminiscent of a natural jewel.
Jaboticaba fruits are delicious and refreshing. Beneath the firm skin is a juicy, jelly-like flesh, the color of which varies depending on the variety. The taste is sweet with subtle notes of grapes and lychee. Because the fresh fruits perish quickly, they are rarely available in regular stores and are most often eaten directly from the tree or processed into juices, jams and wine.
Jaboticaba blooms several times a year, and flowers and fruits of different stages can often be seen on the tree at the same time. In European conditions, it can be successfully grown in a pot and, with proper care, can begin to bear fruit between 3 and 10 years, depending on the variety.
The variety Plinia cauliflora SABARA is not the most commonly grown jaboticaba in the world for nothing! It offers excellent taste and an amazing amount of fruit that ripens several times a year. Yes, you may have to wait a bit longer for your first fruits - around 8-10 years - but trust me, the wait is really worth it.
In addition, this variety is easy to grow, so even a less experienced grower can handle it. It is also often used as a rootstock for other types of jaboticab, which only confirms its versatility and quality. If you are looking for a reliable and proven choice, you have just found it!
