Jaboticaba (read jabotikaba) is a tropical fruit plant native to Brazil, where it is valued for its unique fruits and unusual way of growing. This tree, also known as the "grape tree", impresses with its round, dark purple to black fruits that grow directly on the trunk and branches, giving it a unique appearance reminiscent of a natural jewel.
Jaboticaba fruits are delicious and refreshing. Beneath the firm skin is a juicy, jelly-like flesh, the color of which varies depending on the variety. The taste is sweet with subtle notes of grapes and lychee. Because the fresh fruits perish quickly, they are rarely available in regular stores and are most often eaten directly from the tree or processed into juices, jams and wine.
Jaboticaba blooms several times a year, and flowers and fruits of different stages can often be seen on the tree at the same time. In European conditions, it can be successfully grown in a pot and, with proper care, can begin to bear fruit between 3 and 10 years, depending on the variety.
This special hybrid jaboticaby ESCARLATE is considered the fastest fruiting of all.It can bear fruit in just 3 years after planting the seed. It is ideal for growing in a flowerpot because it bears fruit as a very young and low plant, often from a height of 40 cm. If you want to taste jaboticaba fruits as soon as possible, this hybrid is a great choice. The fruits have an attractive red-green color and a sweet, delicious taste.
