Pitomba – an exotic fruit pearl from Brazil
Pitomba, originating from the state of Bahia in Brazil, will win you over not only with its appearance, but above all with its tasty fruits. This compact tree or shrub with bronze-colored young leaves has a very decorative effect. In the spring, it blooms with large white flowers, from which fruits in the shape of small apricots ripen within 4-6 weeks.
Exotic fruit full of flavor and vitamins
The 3–5 cm orange-yellow fruits have a thin skin and soft, juicy flesh. The taste is sweet and sour with a rich aromatic touch, reminiscent of apricots. The fruits are rich in vitamin C and, thanks to their delicacy, are best eaten fresh directly after picking.
Simple cultivation, great joy
Pitomba is ideal for growing in containers. Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil and plenty of light. Older plants can withstand short frosts down to -1 °C, but during the winter it is advisable to ensure temperatures of min. around 10 °C. Thanks to its compact growth, it can be easily moved between outdoor and indoor environments.
