Eugenia candolleana – Rainforest plum
Eugenia candolleana is a wonderful tree originating from the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil, which enchants with its exotic appearance and delicious fruits. Bright green leaves gradually change color - from rusty brown to yellow to dark green. The reddish-brown bark peels off naturally, revealing a smooth reddish trunk and giving the plant a unique character.
The fruits of this eugenia are round or slightly elongated, with a thin purple-black skin and a firm, juicy whitish flesh that surrounds the loose seed. The taste is sweet, reminiscent of the better-known jaboticaba, and the fruits can be eaten fresh or made into excellent jams.
Eugenia candolleana is ideal for growing in pots, which makes it easier to care for and allows it to be moved indoors for the winter. Although it can tolerate short-term frost, it is recommended to winter it in a warmer environment with a temperature above 10 °C.
Grow a piece of Brazilian rainforest right at your home and discover the magic of this exceptional eugenia!
