Discover a unique evergreen fruit tree from South Africa that will charm you not only with its beauty, but also with its delicious fruits. Dovyalis caffra, also known as Kayaba, Kai apple or Kau apple, is a hardy and undemanding plant suitable even for complete beginners.
The fruits are spherical, bright yellow to orange, with juicy and pleasantly acidic pulp, which tastes like an apricot with a hint of plum aroma. The fruit is excellent fresh, sprinkled with sugar, or as part of desserts, jams, jellies or chutneys.
An evergreen shrub or tree with a dense crown grows planted in the ground up to 3 meters. We then maintain the height of around one meter in the flower pot by shaping. It withstands minor frosts and is easy to grow in full sun or partial shade.
It is a real nutritional treasure. The fruits are rich in vitamin C, which strengthens immunity, they contain potassium important for the balance of fluids in the body and valuable antioxidants that protect the organism.

Instructions for growing Kayaba
Substrate:
Preferably more acidic and well permeable
Recommended mixture: 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite and a little sand
Location:
At home: As close to a window as possible, with plenty of light.
Summering outside (only from spring to autumn): Partial shade
Wintering:
Tropical plant - cannot tolerate temperatures below 0 °C for a long time. Winter at least above 5C
Place in the living room, corridor, conservatory or temperate greenhouse, always as close as possible to the window
Fertilization:
Fertilizers Conventional water-soluble or granulated
Suitable fertilizer: OSMOCOTE long-term granulated fertilizer
